US/UK Pound Yemen Houthis Over Red Sea Attacks

messages were sent to AlertsUSA subscriber mobile devices:

1/11 - US and Britain commence missile and air strikes against the Iran-back Houthi terrorist group in Yemen. Possible national address by POTUS. Monitoring..

1/11 - POTUS releases stmt confirming Yemen attacks and warning the US and partners will not tolerate attacks by hostiles imperiling freedom of navigation. See email.

What You Need To Know

On Thursday evening, AlertsUSA subscribers were some of the first in the nation to learn that the U.S. and Britain had launched attacks on Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. The joint strikes were carried out with nonoperational support from Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands. The US struck over 60 targets at 16 Houthi sites, including command and control nodes, munitions depots, launch systems, production facilities, and radar systems, all of which were used to carry out attacks against vessels operating in international waters.

The White House issued a statement from President Biden shortly after the first round of strikes were concluded.

"These strikes are in direct response to unprecedented Houthi attacks against international maritime vessels in the Red Sea—including the use of anti-ship ballistic missiles for the first time in history. These attacks have endangered U.S. personnel, civilian mariners, and our partners, jeopardized trade, and threatened freedom of navigation. More than 50 nations have been affected in 27 attacks on international commercial shipping. Crews from more than 20 countries have been threatened or taken hostage in acts of piracy. More than 2,000 ships have been forced to divert thousands of miles to avoid the Red Sea—which can cause weeks of delays in product shipping times. And on January 9, Houthis launched their largest attack to date—directly targeting American ships."

[...]

"Today’s defensive action follows this extensive diplomatic campaign and Houthi rebels’ escalating attacks against commercial vessels. These targeted strikes are a clear message that the United States and our partners will not tolerate attacks on our personnel or allow hostile actors to imperil freedom of navigation in one of the world’s most critical commercial routes. I will not hesitate to direct further measures to protect our people and the free flow of international commerce as necessary."

Readers are reminded that just last week, the Houthis were warned by the U.S. and 11 other nations to cease their attacks or face potential military action.

Houthi Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Jahaf is threatening revenge:

"Whoever is involved will pay the price. Our attacks will not stop until you leave the region, and we will not stop trampling on you until we see humiliation and disgrace among you. Yemen is now disciplining Britain and America at sea."

The U.S. Navy has warned American-flagged vessels to steer clear of areas around Yemen in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden for the next 72 hours

As a final note, some readers may find the Houthi's official slogan and demonstration chant interesting:

"Allah is Great. Death to America. Death to Israel. Curse on the Jews. Victory to Islam"

Here we go...

Israel-Hamas War Update
Jan 13, 2024

What You Need To Know

The NYT reports the CIA is collecting information on senior Hamas leaders and the location of hostages in Gaza, and is providing that intelligence to Israel as it carries out its war in the enclave. Before Oct. 7, the US generally relied on Israel for collecting most intelligence on Hamas.

The IDF said on January 11 that Israeli forces continue to locate and destroy Hamas tunnels in the Gaza Strip. The IDF reported that Hamas has spent tens of millions of dollars constructing hundreds of kilometers of tunnels. Unspecified senior Israeli officials told The Economist on January 11 that the IDF has yet to destroy half of Hamas’ tunnels in the Gaza Strip.

Israel announced Friday that it had reached a deal with Qatar that will allow the delivery of medicine to hostages being held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Rethinking the U.S. Strategic Triad

US armed forces have undergone a virtual revolution in military technology over the past several decades, along with a rethinking of a number of concepts about military strategy. The conceptualization of the US nuclear strategic military force structure, however, is still very much on autopilot. The traditional “triad” of strategic launch systems—intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs), and heavy bombers—dates from the 1960s. The Obama, Trump, and Biden administrations all endorsed modernization plans for the triad that replaced each category of launchers with an updated version of its predecessor. As a recent report by the Congressional Commission on the Strategic Posture of this nation pointed out, the United States is still on course to spend more than a trillion dollars rebooting the strategic nuclear triad and supporting command, control, and communications systems and infrastructure.

How Powerful Is Iran’s Revolutionary Guard?

Created after Iran’s 1979 revolution to protect the new Islamic regime, the IRGC has become one of the most powerful paramilitary organizations in the Middle East. It has provided assistance to militant groups in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, the Palestinian territories, Syria, and Yemen. Its control over large sectors of the Iranian economy helps it fund its activities, and sweeping U.S. sanctions don’t seem to be limiting its regional ambitions.

Unrestricted Immigration Is a Real Problem

The Biden administration’s continuing effort to conceal or lie about the historic rates of immigration into the country is fast becoming a crisis in its own right—a socially- toxic version of The Emperor’s New Clothes. “It’s not unusual,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre casually remarked in late December, a month that saw the highest number of recorded migrant encounters in U.S. history. The Department of Homeland Security finally disclosed last Friday that more than 2.3 million migrants have been released into the country during the administration’s time in office.
