Multiple warnings were issued by government officials this week regarding growing terror threats to the homeland.
On Tues, AlertsUSA subscribrs were also notified via SMS messages of a warning issued by the Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, within which he stated that ISIS was likely to attempt direct attacks on the U.S. in the coming year and that the group was infiltrating refugees escaping from Iraq and Syria to move across international borders.
Also this week, Marine Corps Lieutenant General Vincent Stewart, Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, warned the Islamic State is likely to increase the pace and lethality of its transnational attacks in an effort to provoke a harsh reaction from the West.
Additionally, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson warned this week that terror groups remain focused on targeting aviation. His comments come on the heels of a Feb 2nd attack within which a suicide bomber used a sophisticated bomb built into a laptop computer to blow a gaping hole in a Daallo Airlines jet forcing an emergency landing in Mogadishu, Somalia. In that attack, the attacker appeared to have been sucked out of the hole to his death. At least 20 people are under arrest in connection with the bombing, including two men caught on surveillance video handing the laptop to the suspect.
AlertsUSA continues to monitor the overall domestic and international threat environment and will immediately notify service subscribers via SMS messages of new alerts, warnings and advisories or any developments which signal a change the overall threat picture for American citizens as events warrant. |
