What You Need To Know

Beginning last Sunday, AlertsUSA subscribers were notified of a firebombing attack on pro-Israel demonstrators in Boulder, Colorado. The attack injured at least nine people, with most ranging in age from 52 to 88. The suspect, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, was reported to have yelled "Free Palestine" during the attack.

Later that day, subscribers were informed that security was increasing at synagogues and Jewish Community Centers nationwide following the Boulder attack and in preparation for the Shavuot holiday, which typically involves large, festive gatherings that run late into the night.

FBI/DHS Warning

On Friday, AlertsUSA subscribers were notified of a new public service announcement issued by the FBI and DHS, highlighting potential public safety concerns related to ongoing threats to Jewish and Israeli communities.

Quoting from the PSA:

"On 1 June 2025, an individual approached several people at a pro-Israel gathering in Boulder, Colorado, and threw two Molotov cocktails at the group, injuring at least nine people. This attack followed a separate attack in late May 2025, in which an individual shot and killed two Israeli Embassy staffers after they attended an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC. The Capital Jewish Museum attacker allegedly cited Israel's treatment of the Palestinian people when taken into custody."

"The ongoing Israel-HAMAS conflict may motivate other violent extremists and hate crime perpetrators with similar grievances to conduct violence against Jewish and Israeli communities and their supporters. Foreign terrorist organizations also may try to exploit narratives related to the conflict to inspire attacks in the United States. The FBI and DHS therefore urge the public to remain vigilant and to report any threats of violence or suspicious activity to law enforcement."

Al Qaeda Threat

This announcement appears to have been prompted by a new 32-minute video released late this week by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), one of the most dangerous branches of the terror organization, calling for global jihad in response to Israel’s war in Gaza. The video features Saad bin Atif al-Awlaqi, the leader of AQAP, accusing both Israel and the US of crimes against humanity and urging Muslims worldwide to take violent action.

The video includes graphic footage of Gaza and cites historical al Qaeda figures to emphasize what Awlaki calls a “continuing 30-year war” against the United States.

Awlaki presents a twelve-point plan aimed at igniting unrest, sabotage, and jihadist violence across the Arab world and the West. Two of these points are of particular interest for this forum:

In the first, Awlaki calls on followers to target Jewish individuals and institutions in both the U.S. and Europe with direct, violent action.

In the second, Awlaki calls on Arab Americans to carry out assassinations, targeting high-ranking government officials like the POTUS, VPOTUS, SecState, SecDef, and Elon Musk. He also urges attacks on companies tied to the defense and technology sectors.

Remember the Past

Readers are reminded that al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has been at the heart of some of the most diabolical terrorist attacks and plots in modern history. These include:

Caution and vigilance are urged at public gatherings, as well as around houses of worship of any faith.

AlertsUSA continues to monitor the national and international threat environment and will immediately notify service subscribers of any new alerts, warnings, or advisories that impact the overall threat picture for American citizens as events warrant.

A Guide to Refactoring the Defense-Industrial Base

When most Americans remember President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s farewell address, they think of his warning of the power of the “military-industrial complex,” but he also offered the positive vision of an industrial base “ready for instant action, so that no potential aggressor may be tempted to risk his own destruction.” Over 60 years later, America’s adversaries are increasingly testing their luck, often by leveraging inexpensive, commercial off-the-shelf systems to impose asymmetric costs on the United States and its allies and partners. This is causing both a tactical deficit and technical debt the defense-industrial base is struggling to reconcile.

How Operation “Spider’s Web” Redefines Asymmetric Warfare

On June 1, Russia’s Military Transport Aviation Day, a significant holiday for the Russian armed forces, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) carried out a bold and unprecedented coordinated drone strike deep inside Russian territory. The operation targeted four strategic air bases and delivered a major blow to Moscow’s long-range bomber fleet. Codenamed “Spider’s Web”—or simply “Web”—the operation was named for its wide geographic coverage across remote Russian locations previously thought to be beyond the reach of Ukraine’s long-range drone capabilities.

IED Manufacturing Component Awareness

First responders are in a unique position within their communities and may encounter suspicious activities, items, or behaviors associated with the manufacture of Homemade Explosives (HME)/Improvised Explosives (IE) or constructing IEDs. Their ability to recognize indicators of explosives production (HME/IE and IED precursors, components, and materials) may disrupt attack planning and remains a critical component in suspicious activity reporting for further vetting.

This interactive product for public safety personnel is intended to aid in visual recognition and establish a baseline understanding of materials and equipment associated with HME/IE and IEDs. The NCTC/ DHS/FBI document was originally published in Oct 2021.
