FBI: China is 'Greatest Long Term Threat' To The U.S. |
July 11, 2020 |
|
|
What You Need To Know |
On Tuesday, FBI Director Christopher Wray warned of the stark threat posed by the Chinese government and Chinese Communist Party to the economic and national security of the United States. In a stunning address delivered at the conservative think tank Hudson Institute, Director Wray carefully laid out the breadth and depth of Chinese efforts to become the world's only superpower by usurping the United States with a government-directed "campaign of theft and malign influence."
"The greatest long-term threat to our nation’s information and intellectual property, and to our economic vitality, is the counterintelligence and economic espionage threat from China. It’s a threat to our economic security—and by extension, to our national security."
"But if you think these issues are just an intelligence issue, or a government problem, or a nuisance largely just for big corporations who can take care of themselves—you could not be more wrong."
"It’s the people of the United States who are the victims of what amounts to Chinese theft on a scale so massive that it represents one of the largest transfers of wealth in human history."
"If you are an American adult, it is more likely than not that China has stolen your personal data."
"We've now reached a point where the FBI is now opening a new China-related counterintelligence case every 10 hours."
"Of the nearly 5,000 active counterintelligence cases currently under way across the country, almost half are related to China."

Coronavirus Update |
July 11, 2020 |
|
As of the time of this reports' preparation on Friday, there were more than 3,175,000 COVID-19 cases reported in the U.S., as well as 133,000 deaths attributed to the virus. In addition, multiple states are reporting their highest averages of new cases since the pandemic began, and more importantly, hospitalizations as a result of the virus have been sharply rising.
Despite the dramatic influence of politics on the pandemic response, as well as the botched effort of federal and state health authorities in testing and accurate case counting, the two-step and mixed messaging on use of masks, the highly flawed rule-making hampering the use of hydroxycholoquine in the treatment of those infected with COVID-19 and so much more, AlertsUSA encourages listeners to remain conscious of the need to be cautious, not only out of concern for your own well being, but also that of others. There actually is a virus, is still in circulation globally, it is still hospitalizing people globally, and it is still taking lives globally.

START Global Terrorism Overview 2019
|
July 11, 2020 |
|
The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) has released a new Global Overview that highlights trends in worldwide terrorism in 2019.
In this 12-month period there were nearly 8,500 terrorist attacks around the world, which killed more than 20,300 people, including 5,460 perpetrators and 14,840 victims.
Within the U.S., there were 64 terrorist attacks, killing 51 people. Terrorism in the United States continued to be characterized by diverse, sometimes complex, and often ambiguous ideological influences, typically without clear ties to formal, named organizations.
Perpetrators of the 10 lethal terrorist attacks in the U.S. in 2019 included white supremacists/nationalists, anti-Semitic extremists linked to the Black Hebrew Israelite movement, an al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula operative, and a conspiracy theory extremist.

Is Taiwan the Next Hong Kong?
Pro-democracy protests have rocked Hong Kong for more than a year. Now, China has imposed a draconian national security law that will undermine the territory’s autonomy and, by extension, its identity. The new law is a profound tragedy for the people of Hong Kong, but unfortunately, there is little the international community can do to halt its implementation.
U.S. policymakers must consider more than Hong Kong when formulating their response. A tepid U.S. reaction could leave Beijing with the impression that it can proceed with relative impunity on other contentious issues in Asia. The shadow of Taiwan looms large in this context. Unless the United States demonstrates the resolve and ability to resist Chinese coercion and aggression, China’s leaders may eventually conclude that the risks and the costs of future military action against Taiwan are low—or at least tolerable.

China-India border dispute:
Is Pakistan about to enter the fray?
Experts believe the military stand-off between Chinese and Indian forces in the disputed Himalayan territory of Kashmir has made South Asia the most dangerous hotspot in a new cold war between Beijing and its United States-led rivals in the Indo-Pacific theatre. The dispute goes beyond Kashmir’s borders. At stake are water resources on which 270 million people depend

No More Stealth: China's Quantum Radar
Could Reveal All Submarines
According to some evaluations, today’s cutting-edge submarines like the Virginia- and Sea Wolf-class attack submarines have been evaluated to run only five decibels louder than average oceanic background noises. Even less-expensive Swedish air independent propulsion submarines have successfully passed undetected to sink U.S. carriers during exercises. Yet some naval analysts are decidedly bearish on the prospects of submarine stealth in the twenty-first century.
